Abdul Kalam was deeply insulted by Yati Narsinghanad Saraswati - the leader of the popular Dasna Devi temple of a large Hindu, sect by calling him a Jihadi and accusing him of being in connection to a convicted terrorist. The leader has a history of targeting Muslims and promoting communal violence against Muslims. The statement was said after an incident involving a Muslim boy being thrashed physically at the temple for entering to drink water.
