A century-old mosque was demolished in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh defying the court orders. The local administration demanded to produce the proof of the ownership of the land. The mosque committee responded to the notice and produced an electricity bill from 1959 demonstrating that the mosque was not illegally constructed. However the police along with paramilitary surrounded the area and after clearing away the people from there bulldozed the mosque to debris. The authorities put a barricade around the mosque stopping worshippers from praying at the spot. The Sunni Waqf Board, who are the guardians of the mosque, said no intimation was given to them for the demolition. They also said that they would approach the High Court for the restoration of the mosque.
