Gulnaz Khatoon was engaged to a man, while she was being harassed by Satish Kumar Rai with a marriage proposal. After the rejection of which, the three accused caught her as she stepped out of her home to take the trash out and began molesting her. When she resisted, they poured kerosene on her and burnt her alive. She reached the hospital with 75% burn injuries and died there. A statement of the victim was recorded by sub-inspector Shailendra Sharma at a private hospital, a few hours after the incident but the FIR was not registered. The FIR was registered after a delay of 3 days.
