Members of the Hindu Jagran Manch led by President Gaurav Thakur entered the Taj Mahal with saffron flags and gangajal in pockets. They offered prayers to Lord Shiva on the premises and recorded a video and the video went viral on social media. People from the right-wing fringes claim that the Taj Mahal was built over a temple of Lord Shiva , although the Union culture minister, Mahesh Sharma, made it clear in 2015 that there is no historical backing to the myth. The Archaeological Survey of India had earlier dismissed the claims that the 17th-century Mughal monument is a Shiva temple.
