Journalist Denied Position for Wearing Hijab

During a telephonic conversation for a job interview for the post of a news anchor between Ghazala Ahmad, Mass Communication graduate from AMU and a Delhi-based Hindi media channel, Ghalaza alleged that she was discriminated against for wearing a Hijab. The interview was going well according to Ghazala and even the salary and time was discussed when Ghazala felt the need to mention that she observes the Hijab. To which she was met with statements like “Have you ever seen a Hijabi journalist on TV?” and “You’re not understanding. even big media channels do not hire (hijabis). We are only a small portal,”. The conversation drastically changed when I told the recruiter that I wear a hijab and she goes on to say that Islamophobia has unfortunately seeped inside even the muslim psychology.
