Around 15-17 UP Police officials visited Tyagi at his home and physically assaulted him saying “Tu hi hai Yogi-Modi wala (you are the one who talks about Yogi and Modi)” and detained him at Qila Parikshitgarh Police Station along with another minor from his area. UP Police then forced Tyagi and the minor to sign documents linking them to cow slaughter weapons. Tyagi was sent to 16 days of custody, and was given bail on 7th September along with the minor, after getting his hearing postponed twice in a week. Since his release, Tyagi has emphatically denied the cow slaughter charge against him. “I have been targeted for my activism and my political views on social media,” said Tyagi, who is strongly critical of right-wing politics in his Facebook and Twitter posts. Ahmad’s father also claimed his son has been falsely accused. “My family has been targeted only because I left one of my old cows in the jungle after she stopped giving milk,” said the farmer who was not in the village on the night when Ahmad was arrested.
