25 Feb 2020 Delhi: The plaque, which also had the BSF's symbol, stated that house number 76 belonged to Mohd Anees. However, it was not enough to shield them from the impending violence. On the afternoon of February 25, the mob destroyed every home in Khas Khajuri Gali by setting them on fire and vandalising them one by one. The cars outside the house were first set on fire. The mob continued to throw stones at the home for a while. They hurled a gas cylinder into the house to set it on fire while yelling, "Oeidhar aa Pakistani, tujhe naagarikta dete hai (Come hither Pakistani, we'll grant you citizenship)". They were unaware that Anees had joined the BSF in 2013 and had since spent three years protecting the border in Jammu and Kashmir. In the home with Anees were his father Mohd Munis, 55, uncle Mohd Ahmed, 59, and cousin Neha Parveen, 18. They were all able to escape from the residence with the assistance of paramilitary personnel after sensing what was likely to happen next. Neha Parveen was scheduled to wed in April, and Anees was scheduled to wed in May. The family claimed, "All the stuff we gathered during our lives, jewellery “ two gold necklaces, silver jewellery, it is all gone." We used to send money each month and gather this jewellery, they claimed, adding, "We used to buy jewellery on instalments." Along with other valuables and all of their possessions, the fire also destroyed Rs 3 lakh in cash for the wedding arrangements.
