Communal violence over provocative songs at Bhandara in Agra

The Dussera celebrations turned into communal violence as a result of the Bhandara's playing of “provocative” music. Members of both communities, and observers, were hurt during the stone-throwing that followed from the neighborhood mosque. However, local social activists and senior citizens were able to calm both sides down before the violence escalated into a full-fledged community riot that extended throughout the city. According to Station House Officer Shahganj Arvind Kumar, the event happened in the Deoretha neighborhood of Agra, where the people were celebrating a Bhandara. When local Muslim youngsters gathered to the Bhandara location about 10 p.m., they began complaining that the provocative music being played there was demeaning to them . They demanded that the music be stopped, but the youths playing the music did not stop the music."
