Gujarat constable assaulted, alleges attacked for being Muslim

“As I was making my way home, a young man crossing the street near Shiv Shakti Mohalla neighbourhood extended his hand at me. I politely asked him to cross the street, and as he approached, he began addressing me in terms that were insulting to my religion. Attackers shouted, “Oh, Bodeya!” and “Oh, Muslim!” in reference to his appearance. . He was joined by five to seven people from a local village next to a gas station, and they all started beating me. I was dragged by my beard. They attempted to choke me after they hit me in the face, according to the Arif said that the attackers took his wallet away and disappeared from there as “conscious people” rushed to save him from the attackers. The attackers are said to be instigated by Shaikh’s Muslim appearance, i.e. his beard or Lihyah.
