On March 6, more than 200 homes were allegedly torched by the local police and the local authority including people from BJP background in the Bhusa Mandi slum in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The neighbourhood police said that their strategy was to evict anyone who they believed had trespassed on private property from their residences. The owners of the burned-out properties accuse the cops of starting the fires. They claim to have nothing left, including their home, their possessions, and their money. Police had registered cases against victims for allegedly hurling stones at the police during this incident while the locals denied this claim.
