A crowd broke into a Muslim man's home in Rohtak, believing that he had killed a cow in honour of Bakri Eid. the namaaz ghar was also vandalised by the mob. According to Khokhar's buddy Naseeruddin, after Khokhar whacked a calf with a stick after she hurt his daughter, a rumour of cow slaughter began to circulate. He told the daily, "The calf took a few paces and suddenly died. However, some antisocial individuals circulated the rumour that Muslims had killed it in observance of Bakri Eid. Yamin left the village with his family after spotting peril. The mob broke into Khokhar's home and forced the calf's body into the Muslim cemetery. Additionally, they stated that the neighbourhood would now need to construct a cow shelter. When they arrived at the police station, Khokhar, his brother Yasin Khokhar, and their neighbour Shokeen were all taken into custody. According to Manjeet Kumar, the house officer at Rohtak Sadar Police Station, they were detained as a result of a complaint made by local sarpanch Suresh Kumar. According to Rohtak Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, the victims had not filed a complaint with the police.
