An 8 year old Muslim girl Asifa was raped and murdered by some policemen and retired government officials. She was kept confined in a temple where she was regularly given sedatives which kept her unconscious. She was raped for a week by the accused men and tortured before she was killed and her body was thrown in the forest. Some of the policemen were suspected to wash the clothes of Asifa before sending them to the forensic lab. Eight people were arrested out of whom former sub-Inspector Anand Dutta and head constable Tilak Raj were released on bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court.
