The members of the Ram Navami rally allegedly took a Muslim dominated area’s route for the procession while chanting provocative slogans. In retaliation, stones were pelted on the rallyists. The rallyists then became violent and resorted to vandalism and used arson. Around 50 shops were burnt. A BJP member was arrested for his involvement in the crime but he managed to flee from the police custody. Police arrested around 180 people for rioting.
