80-year-old Muslim Man Lynched By A Mob and Burnt

In Sitamarhi, a Durga Puja procession was refused access through a neighbourhood with a high Muslim population. An earlier warning had been given, according to the local police officers, to prevent any conflicts. The procession became raucous after being turned away, which resulted in fights between the two groups and required police intervention. Ansari was allegedly returning from his daughter's residence when the mob decided to attack him. The mob then battered and burned Ansari alive after dragging and beating him. Images and videos of this have now gone viral. Ansari was identified as the burned corpse two days after the police reported him missing. Following the incident, internet service was shut down in the area in an effort to prevent rumour spreading.
