Hindutva activists belonging to BJP, VHP, ABVP, and Bajrang Dal tried to assault an interfaith couple in Hapur. They gathered in front of the house of Shoaib and Vidya and started creating a ruckus. The couple called the police to rescue them. When the police were taking them out, the mob tried to snatch Shoaib. The police had to resort to lathi charge. The couple got married in court against the consent of their families. The girl’s family reached Hapur and contacted VHP members after which they had gone to ‘rescue’ the girl. The girl said she was living with the man willingly.
