Man lynched in Bihar on suspicion of cattle theft
2019-01-02
A mob of over 300 people brutally murdered a Muslim man on suspicion of livestock theft. Kabul Miyan was constantly referred to as a "chor" (thief), kicked in the face, assaulted with sticks, and shown a few films taken on the attackers cell phones. One can hear the assailants, who are being led by a man by the name of Muslim Miyan, laughing and encouraging one another to keep beating the man. As they beat the guy, they even pulled down his clothes. Kabul Miyan's arguments and defense fell on deaf ears, and the mob continued until their victim was dead on the ground. Some of them even recommended posting the videos online. Although several of the attackers' faces can be seen in the recordings, the police have not detained any of them. Former village leader Kabul Miyan is heard in the film telling the crowd that he has no cause to steal anyone's cattle in a broken voice. Muslim Miyan has previously reported a cattle theft case involving the victim. After the local footage went viral, the police learned about the mob violence two days later.
