Police assaulted the Meerut woman for having a Muslim friend. A Muslim guy and a Hindu girl who were the targets of right-wing extremists in Meerut claim that police mistreated them rather than attempting to stop the attackers from brutally beating up the Muslim man. The man claimed that the group, which is purportedly connected to the right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad, accused him of engaging in "love jihad" and beat him repeatedly in the private areas. The girl stated that when she and her friend were studying in his house, "Bajrang Dal activists" dragged the boy outside and began beating him, while also locking the female in a room. A 50-second video of the incident that surfaced on the social media platform brought attention to the issue. The girl's father was under pressure to lodge a complaint against the Muslim man when their parents were called. Only when the father declined to file a complaint were the two students permitted to return home.
