Abdul Jaleel (45), owner of a fancy shop was stabbed to death at Katipalla, near Surathkal in Karnataka, in the late evening on Saturday. Jaleel was attacked by unknown persons while at his shop at about 8 p.m. on Saturday. Though he escaped and tried to run away, the unidentified attackers followed and stabbed him. Jaleel succumbed to the injury at a private hospital in Mukka, near Surathkal. “The murder looks like it was done to gain political mileage by inciting Muslims to take revenge. We will not fall to this design and create trouble. But we want the police to catch the real persons behind the attack. The assailants and people who hatched the conspiracy should be punished. The Chief Minister should visit and console the family members of Jaleel,” The Hindu quotes K. Ashraf, President, Dakshina Kannada Muslim Okkoota as saying. “Home Minister Araga Jnanendra and Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar were both in Moodabidri attending the cultural jamboree of the scouts and guides when the stabbing incident took place. The Home Minister should have visited the spot following the incident. But he did not,” said former MLA of Mangaluru City North B. A. Mohinuddin Bava. Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar on Sunday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.P.C in Surathkal and adjoining areas. The movement of people in group of five and more from 6 a.m. on Sunday, December 25 to 6 a.m. on December 27 has been banned in the jurisdiction of Surathkal, Panambur, Bajpe and Kavoor police station limits. This will not apply to Christmas celebrations, religious programmes and emergency services.
